* At rest: If the object was already stationary, it will remain stationary.
* Moving at a constant velocity: If the object was already moving, it will continue moving at the same speed and in the same direction.
Why?
Newton's First Law of Motion states that an object at rest will stay at rest, and an object in motion will stay in motion at a constant velocity, unless acted upon by a net force.
* Balanced forces: When forces are balanced, they cancel each other out, resulting in a net force of zero.
* Zero net force: A zero net force means no acceleration, so the object's velocity remains unchanged.
Example:
* A book sitting on a table has balanced forces: gravity pulling it down and the table pushing it up. The book stays at rest.
* A car moving at a constant speed on a straight road has balanced forces: the engine pushing it forward and air resistance and friction slowing it down. The car continues moving at a constant speed.
