  • Understanding Gravity: The Force That Shapes Our World
The force that pulls objects towards the center of the Earth is called gravity.

You feel the effects of gravity everywhere on Earth! Here are some examples:

    * Standing on the ground: The force of gravity keeps your feet firmly planted on the ground, preventing you from floating away.

    * Falling: When you jump, you are briefly defying gravity, but its pull brings you back down to Earth.

    * The weight of objects: Gravity gives objects their weight. The heavier an object is, the stronger the pull of gravity on it.

    * The tides: The moon's gravity pulls on the Earth's oceans, creating the tides.

    * The orbits of planets: Gravity keeps planets in orbit around the sun.

Although you feel gravity constantly, it's a subtle force. You don't notice it when you're sitting or lying down, but you definitely notice it when you try to jump!
