  • Understanding Acceleration: Direction and Velocity
If a moving object speeds up, the acceleration is in the same direction as the object's velocity.

    Here's why:

    * Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity.

    * Velocity has both speed and direction.

    * If an object speeds up, its velocity is increasing in magnitude (speed).

    * Since the direction of the velocity is not changing, the acceleration must be in the same direction as the velocity.

Example: A car moving forward and pressing on the gas pedal. The car speeds up, and its acceleration is in the forward direction.
