  • How Does Light Speed Change in Different Media?
    Light does not travel faster in a medium. In fact, it always travels slower in a medium compared to a vacuum.

    Here's why:

    * Speed of Light in a Vacuum: The speed of light in a vacuum (empty space) is the fastest possible speed in the universe, denoted by 'c', which is approximately 299,792,458 meters per second.

    * Interaction with Matter: When light enters a medium like water, glass, or air, it interacts with the atoms and molecules of that medium. This interaction causes the light to slow down.

    * Refraction: The change in speed causes light to bend, a phenomenon called refraction. The amount of bending depends on the difference in speed between the two mediums.

    So, if light is travelling faster in a medium (which is not possible), it wouldn't bend.
