  • Velocity vs. Speed: Understanding Motion in All Directions
    The rate of motion in any direction is called velocity.

    Here's why:

    * Speed tells us how fast something is moving, but doesn't specify direction.

    * Velocity combines both speed and direction.

    For example:

    * A car traveling at 60 mph has a speed of 60 mph.

    * A car traveling at 60 mph east has a velocity of 60 mph east.

    Therefore, velocity is a more complete description of motion than speed.
