  • Balanced Forces: Understanding Equilibrium and Net Force
When forces are of equal size and opposite direction, it's called balanced forces.

    Here's why this is important:

    * No Change in Motion: Balanced forces result in no net force. This means an object at rest will stay at rest, and an object in motion will continue moving at a constant speed in the same direction.

    * Equilibrium: A state of balanced forces is often referred to as equilibrium. This means the object is in a state of balance and not accelerating.

    Examples:

    * A book sitting on a table: The force of gravity pulling the book down is balanced by the normal force from the table pushing the book up.

    * A car driving at a constant speed: The forward force from the engine is balanced by the forces of friction from the road and air resistance.
