  • Velocity vs. Speed: Understanding the Difference
The speed of an object is called its velocity.

While speed only tells us how fast something is moving, velocity also tells us the direction in which it's moving.

For example, a car traveling at 60 mph has a speed of 60 mph. But if we say the car is traveling 60 mph north, then we're describing its velocity.
