  • Vertical vs. Horizontal Motion: Which Falls First?
The object dropped straight down will hit the ground first. Here's why:

    * Gravity: Both objects are affected by gravity, pulling them downwards at the same rate (ignoring air resistance).

    * Horizontal Velocity: The object thrown horizontally has an additional velocity component in the horizontal direction. This velocity doesn't affect its vertical motion, meaning it will take the same amount of time to fall as the dropped object.

    * Vertical Motion is Independent: The vertical and horizontal motions of a projectile are independent of each other.

In Summary: While the thrown object travels a longer distance overall, the vertical distance it falls is the same as the dropped object. Since their vertical motion is governed solely by gravity, they will hit the ground simultaneously.
