  • Niels Bohr and the Shell Model of the Atom: A Scientific Breakthrough
The scientist who discovered that electrons moved in shells was Niels Bohr.

In 1913, Bohr proposed a model of the atom where electrons orbit the nucleus in specific, quantized energy levels, or shells. This model, known as the Bohr model, was a significant advancement in understanding atomic structure and how atoms interact with light.

While Bohr's model has been refined and replaced by more complex models, the fundamental concept of electrons existing in distinct energy levels, or shells, remains a cornerstone of modern atomic theory.
