  • Understanding Force: How Mass and Acceleration Relate
    The size of a force depends on two things:

    1. Mass: The more massive an object is, the more force is needed to accelerate it. This is directly proportional - double the mass, double the force needed.

    2. Acceleration: The greater the acceleration you want to produce, the greater the force required. This is also directly proportional - double the acceleration, double the force needed.

    This relationship is described by Newton's Second Law of Motion: Force = Mass x Acceleration
