  • Work: Understanding Force, Displacement, and the Formula
The product of force and displacement is work.

    Here's why:

    * Force: A push or pull that can cause a change in motion.

    * Displacement: The change in an object's position.

When a force acts on an object and causes it to move a certain distance, work is done.

    Formula for work:

    Work (W) = Force (F) × Displacement (d)

    Units:

    * Work is measured in joules (J).

    * Force is measured in newtons (N).

    * Displacement is measured in meters (m).

Important Note: The work done is only considered when the force and displacement are in the same direction. If the force and displacement are perpendicular, no work is done.
