  • Speed vs. Velocity: Understanding Miles Per Hour (mph)
mph (miles per hour) describes speed.

    Here's why:

    * Speed is a scalar quantity, meaning it only has magnitude (how fast something is moving).

    * Velocity is a vector quantity, meaning it has both magnitude and direction.

So, while 60 mph tells us how fast something is moving, it doesn't tell us in which direction. To describe velocity, we would need to specify both the speed and the direction, like "60 mph eastward".
