  • Electromagnetic Force: Understanding Attraction and Repulsion
The fundamental force that can both repel and attract is the electromagnetic force.

    Here's why:

    * Electromagnetism: This force governs the interaction between electrically charged particles. Like charges repel (e.g., two positive charges push away from each other), while opposite charges attract (e.g., a positive and a negative charge pull towards each other).

Let's look at the other forces:

    * Strong Nuclear Force: This force holds the nucleus of an atom together, attracting protons and neutrons. It doesn't repel.

    * Weak Nuclear Force: This force is responsible for radioactive decay and doesn't exhibit attraction or repulsion in the same way as electromagnetism.

    * Gravitational Force: This force attracts objects with mass. It doesn't repel.
