  • Understanding Motion: Distance, Displacement, Speed & Velocity
The three fundamental measurements related to the study of motion are:

    1. Distance/Displacement: This measures how far an object has moved.

    * Distance is the total length of the path traveled.

    * Displacement is the straight-line distance between the starting and ending points, and includes direction.

    2. Speed/Velocity: This measures how fast an object is moving.

    * Speed is the rate at which an object covers distance.

    * Velocity is the rate at which an object changes its position, and includes direction.

    3. Time: This measures the duration of the motion.

These three measurements are often combined to understand the dynamics of motion, such as acceleration and deceleration.
