  • Understanding Velocity: Speed and Direction Explained
The speed and direction of motion is called velocity.

    Here's why:

    * Speed tells us how fast an object is moving.

    * Direction tells us which way the object is moving.

Velocity combines both of these elements into a single measurement. It's a vector quantity, meaning it has both magnitude (speed) and direction.

    Example:

    * A car traveling at 60 miles per hour east has a velocity of 60 mph east.

    * A bird flying at 15 meters per second south has a velocity of 15 m/s south.
