  • Speedometer Explained: Instantaneous Speed vs. Average Speed & Velocity
A speedometer shows instantaneous speed. Here's why:

    * Instantaneous speed is the speed of an object at a specific moment in time.

    * Average speed is the total distance traveled divided by the total time taken.

    * Velocity is speed in a specific direction.

A speedometer only displays the speed at the exact moment it is read. It doesn't take into account previous speeds or distances traveled, which are needed to calculate average speed. It also doesn't provide information about direction, which is necessary for velocity.
