  • Work Done Holding an Object: Understanding the Physics
The work done is zero. Here's why:

    * Work and Force: Work is done when a force causes an object to move a certain distance.

    * Constant Height: In this scenario, the object is held at a constant height. This means it's not moving vertically.

    * No Displacement: Since there's no vertical movement, there's no displacement.

    * Zero Work: Without displacement, the force you exert to hold the object up does no work.

Important Note: While you're applying a force to counter gravity, and you're expending energy, that energy is going towards maintaining the object's position, not causing it to move.
