    The total force acting on an object is called the net force.

    Here's why:

    * Forces can be additive: If multiple forces act on an object, they can add up or cancel each other out.

    * Net force determines motion: The net force determines the object's acceleration. A zero net force means the object remains at rest or continues moving at a constant velocity.

    * Vector sum: Net force is calculated as the vector sum of all the forces acting on an object. This means we consider both the magnitude and direction of each force.
