  • Understanding Force: What Causes Motion?
The force that puts an object into motion is called force.

While it seems like a simple answer, it's important to remember that force is a general concept. Here's why:

    * Force is a vector: It has both magnitude (how strong it is) and direction.

    * Many types of forces exist: Gravity, friction, magnetism, and applied forces are just a few examples.

    * Newton's Laws: Newton's First Law states that an object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion at a constant velocity, unless acted upon by a net force.

So, while "force" is the general answer, understanding the specific types of forces and how they act is crucial to understanding motion.
