  • Speed of Sound: Units, Calculation & Temperature Effects
    The speed of sound is not measured in "seconds". It's measured in units of distance per unit of time, such as:

    * Meters per second (m/s): This is the standard unit used for the speed of sound.

    * Kilometers per hour (km/h)

    * Miles per hour (mph)

    * Feet per second (ft/s)

    The speed of sound varies depending on the medium it travels through. In dry air at 20°C (68°F), the speed of sound is approximately:

    * 343 meters per second (m/s)

    * 1,235 kilometers per hour (km/h)

    * 767 miles per hour (mph)

    * 1,125 feet per second (ft/s)

    So, it's not accurate to talk about the "speed of sound in a second". Instead, you can talk about the distance sound travels in one second.
