  • Understanding Gravity's Impact on Object Motion: A Comprehensive Guide

Gravity - A Force Shaping Motion

Gravity is a fundamental force that attracts objects with mass towards each other. Here are two changes it makes to the motion of objects:

    1. Falling objects: Gravity pulls objects towards the center of the Earth. This causes objects to accelerate downwards when they are released from a height, resulting in them falling to the ground. The heavier an object is, the stronger the gravitational pull, and the faster it falls.

    2. Orbital motion: Gravity is the reason planets orbit the sun and moons orbit planets. The gravitational pull between these celestial bodies keeps them in a constant state of motion, with the orbiting body constantly falling towards the larger body but never quite reaching it due to its sideways velocity. This results in the characteristic elliptical orbits observed in space.

In short, gravity is a powerful force that constantly affects the motion of objects, influencing everything from a dropped apple to the movement of entire planets.
