  • Understanding Transparency: What Makes Materials See-Through?
When all light passes through a material, it is called transparent.

    Here's why:

    * Transparent means that light can pass through the material easily, with little to no scattering or absorption. Examples include glass, water, and clear plastic.

Let's differentiate from some other terms:

    * Translucent: Light can pass through, but it is scattered, making it difficult to see clearly through the material (e.g., frosted glass, parchment paper).

    * Opaque: No light can pass through the material (e.g., a wall, a book).
