  • Understanding Negative Acceleration: Why Objects Slow Down
When an object slows down, it has negative acceleration.

    Here's why:

    * Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity.

    * Velocity has both speed and direction.

    * Slowing down means the object's speed is decreasing.

Since the speed is decreasing, the change in velocity is in the opposite direction of the object's motion. This change in velocity is negative, resulting in negative acceleration.

Important Note: Sometimes negative acceleration is called deceleration, but it's still technically acceleration!
