  • Understanding Acceleration: What Happens When Velocity Changes
When velocity changes, it's called acceleration.

    Here's why:

    * Velocity is a vector quantity, meaning it has both magnitude (speed) and direction.

    * Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity over time.

So, if either the speed or direction of an object changes, its velocity changes, and therefore it is accelerating.
