Understanding Magnetism: The Force Between Magnets and Metal
The force that attracts metal to a magnet is called magnetism.
More specifically, the force is caused by a magnetic field generated by the magnet. This magnetic field exerts a force on ferromagnetic materials, like iron, nickel, and cobalt, attracting them towards the magnet.
