  • Speed vs. Velocity: Understanding the Difference with Real-World Examples
    Imagine you're driving a car:

    Scenario 1:

    * You drive 60 miles per hour on a straight highway. This is your speed. It tells you how fast you're moving.

    Scenario 2:

    * You drive 60 miles per hour on a roundabout, constantly changing direction. This is your speed, but it doesn't tell the whole story.

    Here's where velocity comes in:

    * Velocity is your speed AND direction. In the roundabout, even though your speed is constant, your velocity is constantly changing because your direction is changing.

    In simpler terms:

    * Speed: How fast you are going.

    * Velocity: How fast you are going, and in what direction.

So, the difference is direction. Velocity includes direction, while speed doesn't.
