  • Transverse Waves: Direction of Medium Motion Explained
A transverse wave causes its medium to move perpendicular to the direction the wave travels.

Think of a wave on a rope:

    * The wave travels horizontally (left to right).

    * The rope itself moves up and down (vertically).

This is the key characteristic of a transverse wave – the motion of the medium is at a right angle to the wave's direction of propagation.
