  • Forces in Equilibrium: Understanding Lift and Weight During Flight
When a plane is flying at a constant height, the following two forces must be balanced:

    * Lift: This is the upward force generated by the wings, which counteracts the force of gravity pulling the plane down.

    * Weight: This is the downward force due to gravity acting on the plane's mass.

In essence, the plane's wings are generating enough lift to precisely cancel out the force of its weight. This keeps the plane at a constant altitude.
