  • Understanding Rigidity: Definition, Examples & Applications
Rigid means something that is stiff, inflexible, and unyielding.

Here are some examples of things that are rigid:

    * A rock - Rocks are very hard and don't bend easily.

    * A metal bar - Metal is strong and doesn't deform easily under pressure.

    * A wooden plank - Wood can be quite rigid, especially when used in thicker pieces.

    * A bone - Bones provide structure and support to the body and are quite rigid.

    * A brick wall - Bricks are made from hardened clay and are very rigid.

    * A ruler - Rulers are designed to be straight and unbending.

Things that are not rigid are called flexible or pliable. They can bend and deform without breaking. Examples include:

    * A rubber band - Rubber bands stretch easily and can return to their original shape.

    * A piece of cloth - Cloth is soft and flexible, able to drape and fold.

    * A piece of paper - Paper can be bent and folded.

    * A water balloon - A water balloon is filled with a liquid and can easily change shape.
