  • Conductor vs. Insulator: Understanding Electrical Conductivity
The opposite of a conductor is an insulator.

    Here's why:

    * Conductors allow electricity to flow easily through them. Think of copper wires used in electrical wiring.

    * Insulators resist the flow of electricity. Think of rubber or plastic used to cover wires to prevent shocks.

So, while conductors facilitate the movement of electrical charges, insulators block or greatly reduce the flow.
