  • Johannes Kepler: Discoverer of Planetary Motion Laws | Austrian Science
The Austrian scientist who developed laws describing the motion of planets was Johannes Kepler.

While he was born in Germany, he spent much of his life working in Austria and is considered an Austrian scientist.

He is best known for his three laws of planetary motion:

    1. The Law of Ellipses: Planets orbit the Sun in elliptical paths, with the Sun at one focus of the ellipse.

    2. The Law of Areas: A line joining a planet to the Sun sweeps out equal areas in equal times.

    3. The Law of Periods: The square of the orbital period of a planet is proportional to the cube of the semi-major axis of its orbit.

These laws were groundbreaking in their time and revolutionized our understanding of the solar system.
