  • Democritus: The Father of Atomic Theory - History & Impact
The Greek philosopher who first proposed that matter was composed of invisible particles was Democritus.

He lived around 460-370 BC and developed the atomic theory, which stated that all matter is made up of physically indivisible particles called atoms.

Although Democritus's theory was not accepted by many of his contemporaries, it laid the foundation for later scientific discoveries about the nature of matter.
