  • Sound Speed: How Does it Change When Moving from Air to Water?
The speed of sound waves will increase when they travel from air to water.

    Here's why:

    * The speed of sound depends on the medium it travels through. This is primarily due to the elasticity and density of the medium.

    * Water is denser and more elastic than air. This means molecules in water are closer together and respond more readily to vibrations.

    * Denser, more elastic mediums allow sound waves to travel faster.

As a result, sound travels about four times faster in water than it does in air.
