  • Jacques Cousteau & Scuba Diving: The History of Underwater Exploration
Jacques Cousteau didn't attempt to build an underwater breathing device. He was a renowned explorer, filmmaker, and conservationist known for popularizing scuba diving and underwater exploration. He used existing diving equipment, like the Aqua-Lung, invented by Emile Gagnan and developed in 1943.

Cousteau, however, played a major role in refining and popularizing scuba diving with his underwater films and research.
