  • How is a Long Jump Distance Measured? - Equipment & Process
A long jump is measured using a measuring tape.

    Here's how it works:

    * The take-off point: The point where the jumper leaves the ground is marked with a line.

    * The landing: The point where the jumper lands is marked with a "X" or another clear marker.

    * Measuring: The measuring tape is laid out along the ground from the take-off line to the landing point.

The distance between the take-off line and the landing point is the length of the jump.
