  • Understanding Decimal Inches: Visualizing 0.47 Inches
You can't find .47 inches on a standard ruler. Here's why:

    * Standard rulers are divided in halves, quarters, eighths, sixteenths, and sometimes even thirty-secondths of an inch.

    * .47 inches is a little less than half an inch. It falls between the 1/2 inch mark (0.5 inches) and the 1/4 inch mark (0.25 inches).

    To visualize it:

    * Imagine a ruler with inches marked.

    * Find the 1/2 inch mark.

    * .47 inches is a tiny bit closer to the 1/2 inch mark than it is to the 1/4 inch mark.

You would need a very precise measuring tool to find .47 inches.
