  • SI Unit for Speed and Velocity: Understanding m/s
The SI unit for both speed and velocity is meters per second (m/s).

While speed and velocity are related, they are not the same thing:

    * Speed is the rate at which an object moves. It only tells us how fast the object is moving.

    * Velocity is the rate at which an object changes its position. It tells us how fast the object is moving and in what direction.

Both are measured in the same units, but velocity is a vector quantity, meaning it has both magnitude and direction.
