  • Can You Throw a Football Into Space? - Physics Explained
It's not possible to throw a football or any other object into space while on a walk. The force you apply to the football from your throw is not enough to overcome Earth's gravitational pull, which is constantly pulling objects back to the ground. Even if you were to throw the ball with tremendous force, it would still follow a trajectory determined by gravity and eventually come back to Earth.

To be able to escape Earth's gravity and leave space, an object must reach what's known as "escape velocity." This velocity is approximately 11.2 kilometers per second (6.9 miles per second) in the case of Earth. Achieving this speed requires intense acceleration and powerful propulsion systems, such as those used in spacecraft. Merely throwing an object, no matter how forcefully, will not be sufficient to propel it into space.
