  • Understanding Air Masses: Types, Characteristics & Formation
There are actually four types of air masses, classified according to their temperature and humidity characteristics:

    1. Continental Polar (cP): Cold and dry air mass that originates over land in high-latitude regions.

    2. Maritime Polar (mP): Cool and moist air mass that forms over the oceans in high-latitude regions.

    3. Continental Tropical (cT): Warm and dry air mass that forms over land in low-latitude regions.

    4. Maritime Tropical (mT): Warm and moist air mass that forms over the oceans in low-latitude regions.

These air masses play a crucial role in shaping weather patterns and climate conditions in different parts of the world. Their movement, interaction, and modification determine weather phenomena such as precipitation, temperature variations, and storm formation.
