  • Understanding Water Surface Tension and its Curvature
The surface of water in a container is curved due to the phenomenon called surface tension. Surface tension is the property of a liquid that allows it to resist breaking apart and maintain its shape. In the case of water, the surface tension is caused by the cohesive forces between water molecules. These forces create a thin layer on the water's surface that acts like a stretched elastic membrane. This membrane-like layer is responsible for the curvature of the water's surface.
