    Earth's gravity pulling on air masses causes atmospheric pressure. Atmospheric pressure is the weight of the air above a given point. The higher the air pressure, the more air molecules there are above that point. Air pressure decreases with altitude because there are fewer air molecules above a given point at higher altitudes.
