  • Triple Beam Balance: A Step-by-Step Guide to Accurate Weighing
    1. Place the object on the left-hand pan of the balance. Make sure that the object is centered on the pan and does not touch the sides.

    2. Move the counterweights on the right-hand beam until the balance pointer is in the center of the scale. There are three beams on a triple beam balance: the main beam, which holds the object, and two smaller balance beams on the right side. Each balance beam has a set of counterweights that can be moved along the beam. The smallest balance beam has counterweights that weigh 1, 2, and 3 grams. The middle balance beam has counterweights that weigh 10, 20, and 30 grams. The main balance beam has counterweights that weigh 100, 200, and 300 grams.

    3. Once the balance pointer is in the center of the scale, read the weight of the object. The weight of the object is equal to the sum of the counterweights on the two smaller balance beams.
