  • How Sound Intensity Changes with Distance: A Physics Explanation
    Sound gets quieter as it moves away from the object making sound.

    Sound waves spread out as they move away from the source of the sound. As the sound waves spread out, they become less dense, that is there are fewer sound waves in each area. Because there are fewer sound waves per area that reach your ears, they exert less pressure, and so the sound seems quieter.
