  • Understanding Lift: The Upward Force on Airplane Wings
The upward force acting on a wing of a plane in flight is called lift. Lift is generated by the difference in air pressure between the upper and lower surfaces of the wing. As the wing moves through the air, it creates a region of low pressure above the wing and a region of high pressure below the wing. This difference in pressure creates a force that pushes the wing upwards, thus providing lift.
