  • Understanding the Direction of Electromagnetic Waves
    Electric waves and magnetic waves are both electromagnetic waves, and as such, they move in directions that are perpendicular to each other and to the direction of propagation. This means that the electric field vector and the magnetic field vector are always at right angles to each other, and both are perpendicular to the direction in which the wave is traveling.

    In other words, electric waves and magnetic waves move in transverse directions. This is in contrast to longitudinal waves, such as sound waves, in which the particles of the medium vibrate parallel to the direction of propagation.

    The transverse nature of electromagnetic waves is a fundamental property that has important implications for their behavior and applications. For example, it is this property that allows electromagnetic waves to be polarized, which is used in a variety of technologies such as radio antennas and sunglasses.
