  • Understanding Balanced Forces in a Tug-of-War: A Physics Explanation
If the teams in a tug of war are equally strong and pulling with the same amount of force, then the rope will not move and the force will be balanced.

This is because for an object to move, the net force acting on it must not be zero.

If the forces pulling one direction is matched by an equal pulling force in the opposite direction, there's no movement. Hence this means all forces that act upon both sides cancel each other out.
