  • Gravity: Understanding the Force That Holds Us to Earth
The name for the force pulling us to the center of the Earth is called Gravity.

Gravity is a fundamental interaction that exists between any two masses. It is what gives weight to objects and causes them to fall to the ground. The force of gravity is directly proportional to the product of the masses of the two objects and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.

In the case of the Earth, the force of gravity is what keeps us from floating away into space. The Earth's gravity is also responsible for the tides.
