  • Diastole: Understanding the Heart's Relaxation Phase
The relaxation phase of the heartbeat is called diastole. Diastole is the period of time when the heart muscle relaxes and fills with blood. It follows the systole, which is the period of time when the heart muscle contracts and pumps blood out of the heart. Diastole lasts for about 2/3 of the cardiac cycle, while systole lasts for about 1/3 of the cardiac cycle.
