You would not die of suffocation if you were to eject from a fighter plane at an elevation of 12 km without an oxygen tank. The air pressure at 12 km is still high enough to allow you to breathe, although the oxygen concentration is lower than at sea level. You would eventually lose consciousness due to hypoxia, but you would not suffocate.
