Mendeleev placed Argon (Ar) before Potassium (K) because of an irregularity in the atomic mass sequence (39.9 < 39.1) and predicted that the atomic mass of Argon might need correction. He also suggested that Cobalt (Co) and Nickel (Ni) should be interchanged to keep the chemical periodic order.
